WORK-BASED LEARNING (WBL)

WBL Applications for 2025-26 are now open.
Before you begin an application, please read the BASIC INFORMATION ABOUT WBL section below!!
INFORMATION FOR NEW WBL STUDENTS
Complete all parts of the Application Form. The Employer/Parent forms are NOT attached to this application.
Pick up a packet of Employer/Parent forms from Mrs. Thompson in her office #221A. Forms will also be available for pickup at Open House in August.
Complete all forms and obtain all signatures.
RETURN all completed forms to Mrs. Thompson as soon as possible.

INFORMATION FOR CURRENT WBL STUDENTS
All currently enrolled WBL students are required to submit Weekly or Monthly Time Sheets. In addition, students are responsible for all assignments in Google Classroom.
Any assignment not completed will result in a zero.
Any weekly/monthly paperwork not turned in will result in a zero.
Time Sheet forms will be provided in a notebook to all WBL students for the entire semester. You may also pick up extra forms in the WBL office or you may click on the link below to print your own form.
BASIC INFORMATION ABOUT WORK-BASED LEARNING
The WBL course is a state-approved course wherein a student can earn credit.
The student will earn ONE credit for one block of WBL and TWO credits for two blocks of WBL.
The student must work a minimum of 7.5 hours/week for ONE block of WBL or 12-15 hours/week for TWO blocks of WBL.
The student is responsible for getting and keeping a job throughout the entire semester.
The student must provide his/her own reliable transportation to and from the job.
The student must pass all classes.
The student must abide by the school attendance policy.
The student must agree to at least two employer evaluations per semester.
The student must agree to turn in all required weekly or monthly Time Sheets in a timely manner.

WORK PERMIT INFORMATION
Effective July 1, 2015, work permits are no longer required for youth 16 years and older.
If you are 15 and need a work permit, you must initiate the permit from the Dept. of Labor website.
STEP 1: Download this Minor Information Form:
STEP 2: After you and your parents have filled out the Minor Information section on the work permit, you will receive via email a SECURITY KEY.
STEP 3: Then provide your employer with the SECURITY KEY and inform your employer to fill out their section of the permit. Download this Employer Information Form:
STEP 4: Once the Minor section is finished and the Employer section is finished, you will receive an email with both security keys.
STEP 5: Email that form to Mrs. Thompson: angela.thompson@heard.k12.ga.us
Mrs. Thompson will finalize the online application and print/email you the official permit.
MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of the Work-Based Learning program at Heard County Comprehensive High School is to provide students with the opportunity to connect what they have learned in their pathway with work-site application to enable a smooth transition into the workforce and/or post secondary education.
